Pedro and Me - Deep Question

As we begin thinking about censorship, what concepts or specific parts of “Pedro and Me” might parents of students find objectionable? What might their reasons or rational be?

  1. Pedro promoting safe sex by discussing how to use condoms and other means may be objectionable to parents who only want their schools to teach their kids abstinence only. They may view Pedro as promoting sex to their children under the guise of "as long as it is safe sex is okay." These parents' rationals most likely will come from their religious affiliations promoting only having sex when married.

  2. I agree with Nick. Parents might have a hard time with letting their child listen to a speaker who is trying to promote safe sex and feel that that is the job of health teacher and not someone who has HIV. I think also that some of the lectures that Pedro gave were pretty graphic and parents might have a hard time letting their child here things like that. I also feel that since not a lot of people are educated about HIV/AIDS some parents might object to having a gay man come in and talk to their child going back to possible religious beliefs.
